Thank you for your kind words about the ShowCase article.

The issue of sponsorship credit has come up often in my career, especially in the first seven years of it when I was a PR officer at a local bank. A newspaper editor explained it to me this way (I’m paraphrasing): “Your bank’s sponsorship of the event is wonderful, but it’s not what we write about. We write about the event. If you want to tell people that you spent money to sponsor an event, that is your responsibility, and you can buy an ad to do so. That is what ads are for, to persuade. Editorial articles, which are free, are to inform. You do your job and I do mine.”

As a freelancer, I have no control over the coding of the GoErie pages (nor, for that matter, does my editor, Doug Reider), and I see that on that page, there is neither a credit nor, for that matter, a cutline. Though I have no authority to dictate such terms, I asked that Mark, a colleague and friend for 30 years, and a friend of Doug’s,, as well, receive a photo credit in the tab, and he did.

There’s nothing quite like this show, is there? Best of luck on a successful performance, or as they say in the dance world, “merde!”

Great article, John. I do wish you’d mentioned the collaboration and funding that Stairways provided to assist in the marketing of this performance – including the promotional photograph used (credit due to Mark Fainstein).

But the passion and connection Davy and both Mark and Solveig have for the subject matter of mental illness came through beautifully in your write up. Thanks!

Know what, Nate? I just got the Ornette, and it easily would have made the list. I’m very glad I have it, as I am very glad I have the Dominique Eade CD. I couldn’t get “Go Gently To The Water” out of my head for weeks. Whitehead says it could be a new standard. In a just world it will be. It’s that good.
